About Sketches of Light & Land

Sketches of Light & Land is an independent publication where photography, writing and seasonal cooking come together. New stories are published twice a month, inspired by my travels and by life on our small farm in the north of the Netherlands.

Stories between travel and home

Some stories begin on quiet country lanes in England. Others begin at the kitchen table on our small farm in the north of the Netherlands.

Together, they form Sketches of Light & Land, an independent publication where photography, writing and seasonal cooking come together.

I travel in search of stories: to remote farms, artists' studios and shepherds working high in the hills. I return home with my laptop full of notes and interviews, hard drives filled with images and ideas that continue to unfold back on the farm, in the vegetable garden and in my farmhouse kitchen.

Here you'll find Travel Stories, Farm Notes, seasonal recipes and photographic work. Every story is carefully edited and illustrated, inviting you to slow down and explore the landscapes, people and traditions that inspire me.

New stories are published twice a month.

"England has become a second landscape for me — a place I return to time and again for its rural traditions, craftsmanship and quiet beauty."

    About Anna

I'm Anna Rubingh, a photographer and writer based on a small farm in the north of the Netherlands.

My fascination with rural life began long before Sketches of Light & Land. I grew up on a small farm, where I was always outdoors — surrounded by vegetable gardens, animals and changing seasons.

Photography and storytelling have been part of my life from an early age, and during holidays I travelled through Europe with my grandparents. Those early journeys taught me to look closely, to observe landscapes and to collect stories long before I realised that storytelling would become my work.

After my graduation from ArtEZ University of the Arts, I worked as a designer and graphic designer for
international fashion brands. Even then, photography and writing remained constant companions. Eventually they became my profession, leading me to a career creating editorial features and food stories for magazines.

Sketches of Light & Land brings those threads together. It is the place where photography,
writing and seasonal cooking meet — shaped by a lifelong love of the countryside, craftsmanship and the stories that unfold within a landscape.

"Through my work, I hope to reconnect people to the wild freedom within the soul of the land and its unfolding stories."

Framed Works & Fine Art Prints

Images are at the heart of every story I publish.

Alongside the stories I publish, I create small collections of fine art prints inspired by the places I visit and the changing seasons at home.

Each season I curate A Set of Sketches: a collection of photographs paired with carefully chosen antique frames, discovered in local antique shops during my travels.

Every framed piece is unique and finished by hand in my studio.

With every new story, I also release a small selection of limited fine art prints connected to the landscapes and atmosphere of that journey.
